it’s really refreshing when a place is everything that people say it is. nowadays, farmers markets can so easily become kitschy with escalating prices for hip “organic” products that eventually go against everything they were set up to be. but when you walk through eastern market, you get a sense that it’s stayed true to its intent and to the spirit of detroit. there’s a certain authenticity because it addresses a real need for fresh produce and local products in the city. so in my first photographic capture of this awesome place, i tried my best to stay true to the market. real people in real moments. and well, children being children happened to creep into my pictures as they often do.
