a european detroit

I’ve always felt that Europe had a sense of beauty and history that is often lost in urban America. When I first came to Detroit and took a look around, I saw remnants of that older sense of beauty, a sense of beauty that felt only magnified with abandonment and disuse, and a sense of beauty that made Detroit feel vaguely¬†reminiscent of its European founders. It’s an architectural beauty that makes it easier to have conversations regarding historical preservation and a beauty that I would hope inspires a sense of urgency and hope for the revitalization of the city.

  1. you’re right kathy, the beauty seems enhanced with the city’s abandonment. kind of like the augusteum in rome…let’s hope it inspires motivation for Detroit revitalization!
